A dental emergency is any situation that requires immediate treatment to save a tooth, stop ongoing bleeding, or alleviate severe pain. Common Dental Emergencies

Knocked-Out Tooth

A knocked-out permanent tooth requires immediate attention. If you can locate the tooth, handle it by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently if dirty, and try to place it back in the socket. If that’s not possible, keep it moist in milk or saliva and get to our office immediately. Time is critical for saving the tooth.

Severe Toothache

Persistent, severe tooth pain often indicates an infection or abscess that needs immediate treatment. Rinse your mouth with warm water and call our office. Don’t place aspirin directly on the tooth or gums, as this can burn tissue.

Broken or Cracked Tooth

A fractured tooth should be examined as soon as possible. Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Save any tooth fragments if possible and bring them with you.

Lost Filling or Crown

A lost filling or crown leaves the tooth vulnerable to further damage and often causes sensitivity or pain. If you have the crown, try to place it back on the tooth temporarily using dental cement or toothpaste. Call our office for an emergency appointment to have it properly recemented or replaced.

Dental Abscess

An abscess is a serious infection that appears as a painful swelling in the gums. This requires immediate treatment to prevent the infection from spreading. Rinse with mild salt water and call our office right away.
