To maintain proper oral health, it is encouraged to visit the dentist yearly. If possible, two visits annually are even better. These visits allow your dentist to check the progress and health of your teeth. Think of it as a check-up, like the one you would do with your general doctor. These check-ups are solely encouraged to benefit you and make sure you are healthy. Unfortunately, there are some cases where you may need to visit the dentist more than once a year. If you are experiencing any of these signs, it might be time to give your dentist a call!
Pain is a telltale sign of needing to see a dentist. It can be a result of several dental issues, which is why it’s better to go sooner rather than later. The faster your dentist can figure out the cause, the better off you’ll be. Some of the issues that cause oral pain include toothache, infection, tooth decay, abscess, fractures, fillings, or infected gums. Pain should not go ignored because if these issues are ignored, they will get worse.
Children are the only people who should experience frequent tooth loss. If adults lose teeth, it’s typically a result of a more significant issue. This can hint at infection, decay, dead teeth, and more. Not only can this become painful, but alter your appearance. Decay happens when bacteria eat through the hard enamel of the outer layer of the tooth. It appears as small, white, brown, or black spots on your teeth. Also, tooth loss can point to decay, as well.
Flossing is an essential step in daily oral care. If you have not flossed in a while, sometimes your gums will bleed. If your gums are continually bleeding, it’s time to call the dentist. Bloody gums can point to gum disease, receding gum lines, gingivitis, or inflammation. As stated before, if signs like this are ignored, it will get worse before it gets better. Gum disease is a severe infection that requires medical treatment. The number and types of treatments will vary based on the individual. If gum disease is a result of certain behaviors, like smoking, your dentist may encourage you to stop.
