Ways to Care for Your Teeth On the Go

premier • September 20, 2019

Oh no! I didn’t brush my teeth !” Sleeping through your alarm, running around on vacation, or simply being busy often interrupts our morning routines. Whatever your reason is for forgetting to brush, we’ve all been there. Here are five ways you can keep those pearly whites pearly even while on the go:

Keep a Toothbrush With You

Got a purse? A locker? A briefcase? Keep an emergency toothbrush available to you at all times. You can go into your local retail store and purchase an extra toothbrush and toothbrush travel container for your convenience. Most retail stores also have a travel-size section, the perfect place to find sample-sized versions of your favorite brand of toothpaste.

Carry Floss With You

If a friend extends an invitation to an impromptu slumber party to you, you don’t want to find yourself without your floss. Did you know that flossing (in addition to brushing)  removes more plaque from your teeth than just brushing alone does? Flossing also helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease , both of which can contribute to other health problems. Those little samples of floss that your dentist gives you at every check-up are perfect for keeping with you in those cases of flossing emergencies. (Speaking of, here is your reminder to schedule your six-month dental check-up if you haven’t already!)

Use a Fluoride Rinse Every Day

Everyone knows about the benefits of antiseptic mouthwashes; not everyone realizes the benefits of a fluoride rinse. Fluoride helps prevent dental caries (cavities) by remineralizing demineralized areas in the enamel of your teeth. Rinsing daily with a fluoride rinse may help prevent any damage done on those rare days you forget to brush.

Take Advantage of Oral Care Strips

While using an antiseptic mouthwash is ideal, sometimes you may find yourself in a situation where spitting is impossible or inconvenient. Whether you’re in a meeting or out with friends, a good alternative may be to invest in a package of breath strips that begin dissolving immediately on your tongue. An added bonus? They’re sugar-free! Which leads into…

Drink More Water and Avoid Sugary Foods and Drinks

If you know ahead of time that you’re going to be stranded without your favorite dental hygiene items for a while, plan on drinking more water and avoiding foods and drinks with excess sugar. The less sugar and bacteria that’s allowed to sit on your teeth until you’re able to brush and floss again, the better.

We hope this list gives you some ideas on how to be busy without neglecting your dental health. How are some ways you keep your teeth clean while on the go?
